How Green P pricing actually works

Every Green P lot has its own rate posted on the sign at the entrance and on the pay machine. Rates are per half-hour with a daily maximum that varies by lot. The same operator runs all of them, but the city's pricing is zoned — downtown lots cost significantly more than neighbourhood lots, and lots adjacent to major attractions (Rogers Centre, Scotiabank Arena, Roy Thomson Hall) cost more during events.

A few mechanics that catch first-time users:

• The day starts when you arrive. A "daily max" isn't capped to 24 hours — it's capped to a per-entry stay. Park overnight and the daily max may apply twice.
• Event pricing overrides regular pricing. Lots within ~1 km of major venues switch to flat event rates ($25–$40) on game and concert nights. The pay machine will show the active rate.
• The Green P app and PaybyPhone both work at every Green P lot. The app saves your plate so you don't re-type it.

Downtown core rates

The financial district and entertainment district have the city's most expensive Green P lots. Typical 2026 rates in the King/Bay/Yonge core:

• Per half-hour: $4.50–$6.00 weekdays, slightly lower evenings/weekends.
• Daily maximum: $25–$36 depending on the specific lot.
• Event rates: $30–$40 within range of Scotiabank Arena, Rogers Centre, or the Princess of Wales Theatre on event nights.

For short stops (under an hour) these lots are usually cheaper than on-street meters in the same area, which run $5.00 per hour and have one-hour maximums during business hours. For anything past two hours, on-street parking becomes punitive — Green P is the right call.

Midtown and the Annex

Yonge & Eglinton, Yonge & St. Clair, Bloor & Bay, the Annex around Bloor & Spadina:

• Per half-hour: $2.00–$3.50.
• Daily maximum: $14–$22.
• Evening rates: many lots drop to $1–$2/half-hour after 6 p.m.

The Yonge/Eglinton lots in particular are well-priced compared to the meters above ground, especially after dinner-time when on-street parking is also nearly impossible to find.

East end and west end

Leslieville, the Beaches, Roncesvalles, Junction, Bloor West Village — neighbourhood Green P lots are routinely $1–$2 per half-hour with daily maximums under $12. For a Saturday afternoon visit, these lots are essentially the same price as a coffee.

West-end lots near Liberty Village and Ossington follow the same neighbourhood pricing except on weekend nights when nightlife demand drives event-style rates. The pay machine always shows the live rate.

Free-evening lots

A small but useful set of Green P lots offer free evening parking after a certain hour. These are typically lots adjacent to community spaces, recreation centres, or transit terminals where the city wants to encourage off-peak use. As of 2026, look for posted signs reading:

• "Free parking after 6:00 p.m."
• "Free parking after 9:00 p.m."
• "Free all day Sunday"

After-hours flat-rate tricks

Many downtown Green P lots offer a flat overnight rate — typically $6–$10 from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. — that beats both on-street parking and event pricing. If you're going to a show at Roy Thomson Hall or Massey Hall, a lot two blocks away may have a $7 overnight flat rate that lets you grab dinner before and a late drink after for less than one hour of meter parking would cost.

Three flat-rate patterns to look for at the entrance sign:

• "Evenings & Weekends Flat Rate" — typically $6–$10 from 6 p.m. Friday through Monday morning.
• "Early Bird" — enter before 9:30 a.m. weekdays, exit by 6 p.m., pay a flat ~$15 (vs. ~$30 if you arrive five minutes later).
• "Overnight" — typically 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. for $8–$12, designed for downtown residents without dedicated parking.

Green P vs. on-street meters

Quick rule of thumb for Toronto parking decisions:

• Less than 60 minutes downtown → on-street meter, if you can find one.
• 60 minutes to 3 hours downtown → Green P. The per-hour math favours it past the one-hour mark.
• 3+ hours, or overnight → Green P with a flat rate, every time.
• Any time in a neighbourhood (Beaches, Roncesvalles, Junction) → Green P. Cheap, easy, and the side streets are usually permit-only.
• Major event in the entertainment district → either pre-book through a parking app (SpotHero, ParkingPanda) at a reserved lot, or expect to pay event-rate flat fees at the closest Green P.
